Why I Still Love Yoga

Yoga

Few relationships will stand the test of time, but some do. My relationships with Oreo cookies, Hemingway, and yoga have all been part of my life for more than 25 years, and we are still going strong!

Working every day in front of a screen, writing, tapping in words, checking definitions, and changing sentences might be good for your bank account but not for your physical health.

When you have such a very sedentary lifestyle, yoga can work wonders on a day-to-day basis. It keeps your body limber, your spine healthy, and your mind balanced.

And you can practice yoga your whole life, without the need for expensive equipment or subscriptions, and usually without severe bodily injuries. I have done yoga for over 25 years, and my only injury was a dislocated jaw when I went all in doing the lion.

Little old ladies can still bend and stretch like highly flexible preteens well into their 80s.

Yoga is the fountain of youth. You’re only as young as your spine is flexible.
— Bob Harper

Leave The World Behind

But yoga is more than physical benefits. It is about finding inner peace and calm in a world that can be troublesome. It is the opportunity to leave the outside world behind, focus on your mental health and take control of your emotions.

Inner peace begins the moment you choose not to allow another person or event to control your emotions.
— Kathryn Budig

Spiritual harmony

And yoga can be done anywhere on any budget – at home, on the road, or at a gym. Even if you are broke, you can do yoga. And it will always offer you increased flexibility, love, inner peace, spiritual harmony … and a well-shaped derrière.
