Slander Against Single Women
Denmark may have stopped burning witches a few hundred years ago. However, witch-hunting still appears to be a recreational activity for misogynist men and the weak and stupid women who stand by them.
Today malicious people with low self-esteem and other shortcomings don't torch your life with fire, though. They do it with libelous slander.
I am single, female, self-employed, have no kids, and work from home. My experience is that in Denmark in the 21st century, that situation is regarded as rather dodgy by the cerebrally challenged. And slanderous statements are standard – you commit tax fraud, you are a drug dealer, an alcoholic, a prostitute, a schizophrenic, etc. My personal attempt to fight slander with reason in a civilized manner backfired, because
You Are Entertainment!
The objective truth is irrelevant to people who make up slander and to the crowds of cerebrally challenged individuals whose seemingly empty lives give them ample time to listen to and enthusiastically partake in spreading harmful gossip and libelous rumors.
I learned by doing, as stated above, that you cannot fight slander with reason. And telling yourself that Eleanor was right*, does not make it stop or go away. Rising above it does not make it go away, either. Ignoring is your best option, even if this is easier said than done.
Because once you become the object of slander, you become entertainment for village idiots and evil-doers, whose only objective is their never-ending depraved fun and pleasure.
The Dangers of Slander
Slander is ruinous. EOS. Ultimately, it can destroy a person's life and livelihood because once slander has spread, it tends to become 'truth' regardless of how far-fetched it might be.
But slander becoming 'truths' is not slander's only frightening side effect. Hateful words can give some people the idea that the victim is legal prey.
Once a person's name and credibility are ruined, it will only get worse. Vile and slanderous words can start a downward spiral toward threats and physical violence.
Given that I have lots of experience with how primitive and stupid people do this, let me exemplify!
The text below is a work of fiction. Names, characters, businesses, events, and incidents are either the products of the author’s imagination or used in a fictitious manner. Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, or actual events is purely coincidental. Certain long-standing institutions, agencies, and public offices are mentioned, but the characters are entirely imaginary. The opinions expressed are those of the characters and should not be confused with those of the author.
A Day in the Neighborhood
Scene: A single woman who works from home has just moved to the neighborhood. Four women who know each other have the following conversation about her.
1st woman: Did you hear that the bitch across the street is a prostitute who used to deal drugs?
2nd woman: No, I only heard she is on welfare. That's why she sleeps all day.
1st woman: Get up and work bitch! And not just on your back! We have kids in this neighborhood! Unbelievable that the rest of us have to pay for her life.
3rd woman: I saw her at the hospital once.
1st woman: Really?
2nd woman: Where? The psychiatric ward?
3rd woman: Actually, yes, she came from that building. Didn't say a word.
1st woman: Unbelievable how a welfare client thinks so highly of herself.
2nd woman: They are like that. Plus, they say she stalks people!
3rd woman: Well, she has all the time in the world to do that, doesn't she?
4th woman: Hey, what are you talking about?
1st woman: The bitch who lives across the street. She is a welfare client, a former prostitute who used to deal drugs and has been committed to the nuthouse, and now she lives here and stalks people!
4th woman: Really? That's awful – how can people like that afford to live here?
2nd woman: She probably still deals drugs.
4th woman: How do we get rid of her?
1st woman: You have a gun? I have a friend who is a police officer, and they won't lift a finger for trash like that, trust me.
2nd woman: You think we should kill her?
1st woman: You have kids, I have kids, rather her than our kids. People with schizophrenia kill people.
3rd woman: She has schizophrenia?
1st woman: You saw her yourself at the hospital. Plus, most people develop schizophrenia after they have done drugs for a while.
3rd woman: Really?
1st woman: Yes.
4th woman: Yes, that's true. I heard that, too. She will kill us one day if we don't do something.
Thugs
Being the object of slander can be physically and emotionally exhausting, devastating, and damaging to your life and career. But the more you learn to ignore it, the less worn-out you will be.
People who spread slander, like those who partake in gaslighting, are nothing more than thugs who live worthless lives actively seeking confrontation. They feed off your reaction and aim to see you snap and go to pieces. Your best weapon is not to react.
When someone yells after you, walk away; when someone deliberately stands outside your house and slurs you, ignore them; when someone deliberately seeks physical confrontation, walk away. Go home, beat a pillow to a pulp, write out your frustrations in a diary (not online!), and do some extra yoga. - Breathe, baby!
Easier said than done, I know. But if you react to primitive thugs, you have to be ready for a fight, and you might not win.
Thanks for reading! I hope you found it valuable and worth your time! Until next time, remember to get your facts straight and that whatever good times you have will never come back as bad times,
