Over The Rainbow

Saying Goodbye
My best friend, my dog, went over the rainbow about a week ago. It has left a hollow, a void, a feeling of being left behind and lost.
I had had my dog for 14 years and three months, and he was my best buddy, my soulmate, and I was happy and proud to be his human for all those years. And I am angry with the universe that I could not keep him forever.
But life does not work that way. As the poem goes, nothing gold can stay. And old dogs, our hearts and souls, leave us behind when it is time for them to pass on to the other side.
When that happens, all you can do is remember and cherish all those moments of happiness, all those beautiful days that came before the end: The happy faces, the funny habits, the adorable ways. The snoring, the waking you up at 3 am because the little guy forgot to pee at 11 pm. The big, dark eyes, enquiring if you were really going to eat that by yourself?!
A dog will give you all the love, joy, and happiness in the world simply by being there. And that’s the greatest gift in the world.
