The Land of Indifference
May 27th, 2025 / µ
This is a work of fiction. Names, characters, businesses, events, and incidents are either the products of the author’s imagination or used in a fictitious manner. Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, or actual events is purely coincidental. Certain long-standing institutions, agencies, and public offices are mentioned, but the characters are entirely imaginary. The opinions expressed are those of the characters and should not be confused with those of the author.
You never heard them during the daytime, but you could hear their screams at night. But this was the land of indifference, so no one cared that kids were invisible and the nights were filled with screams.
The old men stood outside the house they didn't live in, having one more conversation about the little girl and their own genitals, of which they were always in awe.
The little girl lived in the house, but she was never seen; however, she could be heard screaming at night, just like the little boy in the house of Mommy Black-Eyes. But now Mommy Black-Eyes and her loud screams were gone, and the screams you heard were little screams in the still of the night. And the only people you saw were old men coming out of the basement, like rabies-infested rats creeping out of the gutter.
Out they came amongst their loyal subjects of Nowhereville, who loved them, who praised their madness, and gladly gave them their children as offerings. The hoards of the suburbs of indifference and shady bribes were loyal to their kings.
And the old men were truly kings of the shady quarters, of the dirty sidewalks, and of the suburbian gutter! They were the conquerors of hearts and minds among the cruel and stupid, among the green-eyed devils, and among the bitches of the backyards. Because this was the land of sick men and invisible children, of indifference and shady bribes, and in such lands, no one questions a monster because to the depraved and corrupt monsters are kings!
