To Hate Is Human

Hate is a normal human feeling. However, most of us (as far as I know) learn that it is wrong to hate. Martin Luther King’s famous quote is one that most people have come to believe is true:

Let no man pull you so low as to hate him.
— Martin Luther King Jr.

I used to believe this was true, but not anymore. Over the years, I have learned to accept that hate can be a useful feeling, and one I am entitled to. I have also accepted that I shouldn’t feel guilty about hating people who, in one way or another, trespassed against me.

Today, I believe that when victimized, hate is not only justifiable; hate can also strengthen your resolve and get you through the worst of times, if you can learn to control your hate, that is. Think of Lisbeth Salander, minus the excessive violence!

How To & How Not To Hate

So let’s get back to hating. Control is essential when dealing with emotions such as hatred, I have learned. Hating the whole world may seem justified at times, but it is not constructive. What is constructive is to direct and channelize.

  • Don’t build your world on hate, but learn to use your hate as a pick-me-up feeling that makes you get up, flip the world the bird, and get on with what you are doing, rather than letting others define your life and destroy your will to live.

  • Don’t hate just anyone; instead, focus your hate on those who hurt you.

  • Don’t let your hate fester – turn it into energy, like in sports when you pull yourself together, breathe, and channelize all your energy, including your pain, into movement and action. Feel the feeling, and channelize it into energy.

  • Don’t hate yourself. If you fall into the trap of self-inflicted victim-blaming, you will only drain your personal mental and emotional energy reserves.

  • Do hate those who hurt you and wish to destroy you for as long as you need to.

Honesty Is My Policy

My life is honest, and my hate is straightforward. I do not hide behind right and wrong, I don’t lie to myself about my feelings, and I am the stronger for it. This way of thinking means that despite ten years of continuous and extreme gang-stalking with all this includes, I am still happy, energized, and with a will to win this fight. Even if in a less violent way than Lisbeth Salander.

On that note, thanks for reading. I hope you found it valuable and worth your time. Until next time, remember to get your facts straight!
